Barbara has been making jewellery for a number of years now but actually started working with Irish crochet lace first. This involved working with lace and crocheted small elements. Following on from this Barbara wanted to make a sturdier product and so progressed from working with lace to very thin wire (0.1/0.2mm). She took the skills from the Irish crochet lace and applied this to the wire essentially crocheting the wire. Over time this has evolved and she now also wire wraps, combines the wire with other materials such as wood, stainless steel mesh and pebbles, uses both hot and cold enamel as well as soldering.

Barbara has been working with copper, plated and filled silver as well as oxidised silver, which produces a multicoloured effect on the metal. Barbara is now looking to move into using sterling silver to produce a finer, purer, more secure and higher quality product, as well as producing her own porcelain jewellery and mini decorations using a kiln.

Barbara loves to design new and unique pieces of jewellery and has many ideas which she sketches in her sketchbook. As a result she mainly produces one off pieces and rarely makes a second of the same item. She has been asked to make replicas before, which she can, but all pieces are completely unique as they are handmade.

Barbara is a member of Huntly Crafters and has attended many craft fayres and festivals over the years with much success and has just finished taking part in North East Open Studios (NEOS) for the first time, and she is looking to further promote herself with a new Etsy page as well as further populating her website.

Barbara, who was an Architect and spent a lot of time working with models as well as being a semi-professional photographer taking portrait and wedding photos, is self taught and has used books and online tutorials alongside her passion for design and creativity, ability to learn new skills easily and to work well with her hands to create the jewellery she is making today.
