Artist
On retiring Jill spent a number of years experimenting, learning and attending workshops to progress her artwork. She is keen to continually learn and experiment with her art and as such continues to attend workshops as well as being a member of Isla Arts & Crafts.
Jill puts a lot of time and love into each piece of artwork she produces with some pieces being years in the making. The actual physical art takes roughly a week to produce but the ideas and design behind it can take much longer. Jill takes her camera everywhere she goes and takes many photos before finding one that she is happy with to use as the basis for her artwork.
Jill takes inspiration from her local surroundings with some of her favourite artworks being of the coast. She uses a wide range of media and is always experimenting to bring her paintings to life and create wonderful textures with many different layers. Some of the media she uses includes acrylic paint, oil paint, inks, transfers, paper collage, cold wax, even cling film and sometimes gold leaf and plants. It really is amazing to see what Jill can create, and it is fascinating to hear Jill explain how she creates the different textures in each piece.
Jill has and continues to exhibit at many places including Findhorn Bay Festival at the Moray Arts Centre, Logie Steading near Forres, Still Life Studio in Aberlour, Formartine’s near Haddo House, Elgin Library Gallery, Country Frames Gallery near Insch, Scottish Traditional Boat Festival Portsoy, Gordon Art Exhibition at Inverurie, Artaboyne, Glenfiddich Distillery Exhibition (jointly with Isla Arts & Crafts) and online with Nairn Book and Arts Festival. In addition to these exhibitions Jill also takes part in North East Open Studios (NEOS).
Jill sells her art as originals, prints and in limited editions of 40. She also has some canvas prints as well as greeting cards.
