Keith Kilt and Textile Centre Competition

Keith Kilt and Textile Centre are running a textile competition in which they are looking for a ‘Textile Accessory’ or ‘Textile Item’ from material woven in Scotland. The item must reflect the Spirit of Scotland and can be in the form of jewellery, a handbag, a headpiece or a textile household item such as a cushion or a covered stool. Your entry can be enhanced with beads, embroidery or any other surface embellishment. The theme can be defined and interpreted in any number of ways – be as creative as possible! This can be modern or traditional, celebrating both collectively or individually.

The competition is being run to celebrate 13 years of the Moray Textile Project and is being sponsored by :

There are two categories,’ Textile Accessory’ and ‘Textile Item’, and you can enter both, however, you can only enter one item per category. There are no restrictions on technique or surface embellishment but the main part of the item must be formed from material woven in Scotland. The judges will base their decisions on the following criteria;

Quality of Workmanship
Originality of design
Theme Interpretation
Suitability to the category entered

All entries, from both categories, will be considered for the overall prize winner. Two Runners up will be chosen – one from each category. The winners will receive prizes which have been generously donated by some of KKTC trusted suppliers, and will include a kilt length of tartan, a length of tweed, a kilted handbag, a designer clutch bag of your choice as well as vouchers and free advertising in a local magazine. The overall winner will also walk away with 2 metres of Cashmere fabric from Johnston’s of Elgin Cashmere Centre, a £50.00 voucher from Wm and A.M Robb Ltd of Glasgow and one free advert in a local magazine.

The competition is image based therefore you will need to submit photos of your entry once your are completely happy with it, no further photos, amendments etc will be accepted. You can submit up to 3 photographs and each photo must be a minimum of 1000 x 1000 pixels. Photos can either be emailed, posted or handed in personally to Keith Kilt and Textile Centre. If the judges wish to see the original entry then you will be notified and asked to either post by recorded delivery or to hand in to the shop.

If you would like to enter the competition you need to be a UK resident, enter no later than midnight on 31st August 2018 and send your entry along with your name, address, contact details, entry fee and images to Keith Kilt and Textile Centre. You should also state which category your entry is to be submitted in.

Winners will be notified by email no later than 30th September 2018.

Please note there is a £5 entry fee per entry, which can be paid over the phone by card, the judges decision is final, prizes can’t be exchanged and the winning entries will be displayed in the windows of Keith Kilt and Textile Centre until the end of October.
