Speyside Falconry

My family and I had the pleasure of taking part in one of the Meet the Owl sessions run by Speyside Falconry near Mulben this morning. Although the weather wasn’t on our side we had a lovely time with the owls and Clare, co-owner of Speyside Falconry. We spent approximately an hour with the owls and Clare, followed by some refreshments and the kids were also given a sweetie and activities/colouring to take home.

The owls were exceptionally well behaved even in the rain and wind, and were fantastic with our two young children who were shrieking with excitement and running around. The owls were not once phased by the children which was great and meant that the kids could really get involved and flew the birds as much as we did. Clare was great with both the owls and kids and was very knowledgeable and passionate about the owls and other Birds of Prey that they have.

The Meet the owl session was very much suited to children and families, and lasted just the right amount of time for young children. Clare advised us that the birds she flies at these sessions depends on the age and interest of the children, and she tailors the session to the audience. It was also great that it was just our own family group as at other places you tend to be in with people you don’t know. We thoroughly enjoyed our session and would highly recommend it to any family.

As well as the Meet the Owl session they also offer a Behind the Scenes session which is ideal for 1 or 2 people. This experience is very hands on and lasts approximately 3 hours. This experience allows you to do everything that Clare and Darren do with the birds on a daily basis, provides information on the birds and equipment used as well as a flying experience. Refreshments are also included.

Another exhilarating experience that they provide is an hours walk with a Harris Hawk!

The Meet the Owls, Behind the Scenes and Harris Hawk walk usually take place on weekend mornings between 9 and 12 and suitable footwear should be worn. If the weather is really unsuitable for the birds to fly your session will be rearranged for another time suitable for yourself.

As well as the above experiences Speyside Falconry also offer animal assisted therapy for care homes which is proving a great success, rehabilitation centres and to children and young adult services, photography sessions for novice and experienced photographers as well as educational sessions for Scouts, Brownies, Schools and Other Clubs.

As Speyside Falconry is not open to the public all activities and experiences require to be pre-arranged. Should you have any individual requirements then please contact Speyside Falconry as they are more than happy to try and accomodate them.

Also, if you or your group are unable to get to Speyside Falconry then they are happy to come to you with their owls.
These experiences would make a memorable gift and as such gift vouchers are available.
