Local duo to compete in European Pool Championships as part of Scotland’s National Pool Team

Neil Craig and Alan Bonnyman, both born and bred in Keith, have been successful in qualifying for the National Scottish Pool Team for the 2018 season. This includes playing in the European Championships hosted by the European 8Ball Pool Federation in Malta between 18th and 25th February 2018.

Neil, who works as a Design Draughtsman for Clark and Sutherland, plays for the Ugie House Hotel B team, and has played in a multitude of tournaments. A highlight of his pool career was one of his most recent tournaments which was held in Edinburgh at The Shandon, where he won his qualification for the Scottish team.

Alan is a window cleaner with his own business, A.B Window Cleaning and plays at the Grampian hotel. Alan has won numerous singles tournaments including seven Keith singles and six regional tour events. Three of the tour events were won this season back to back. Unfortunately Alan narrowly lost in the final of the 3rd but came back fighting and won the 4th. As a result Alan finished number one in the tour rankings which qualified him for the Scottish Squad for 2018.

The European Championships will see Neil and Alan playing teams from all over Europe, as well as fighting it out in the singles competition for the European 8ball Pool Singles Championship.

Should you wish to support and follow Neil and Alan at the competition you will be able to do this online at http://www.euro8ball.com/home/. You will also be able to see scores and hopefully watch matches via the live stream.

As expected both Neil and Alan are absolutely delighted to be picked to represent Scotland and are eagerly anticipating the competition in Malta. However, they now face the challenge of raising the money to fund this trip as unfortunately costs aren’t covered for them. As a result, alongside savings, they will be aiming to raise funds by running a Football Card over the Christmas period and January. These will be available to purchase at both the Ugie and Grampian Hotels and will see the winner receiving a cash prize. Neil is also in the process of organising a pool competition to be held at the Ugie House Hotel. The proprietors, Robbie and Midge Martin, will be providing the cash prize for this event. Alongside these fundraisers they are also hoping to gain sponsorship from either companies or individuals. Should you or your company wish to sponsor them then please contact either Neil or Alan via Facebook. In sponsoring them they will proudly wear your logo on their shirts at all pool events as well as supporting your company and brand in any way they can.
