Leadline Studio to be showcased as part of North East Open Studios

North East Open Studios (NEOS) starts on Saturday 8th September and runs until Sunday 16th September. The aim of this initiative is to showcase the many artists, makers and designers that the North East of Scotland has to offer and one of the artists taking part in this is Shona McInnes of Leadline Studio.

Leadline Studio has been producing hand made stained glass for the last 30 years and has been operating from Unit 3 at the Westerton Road Business Centre (behind Tesco) in Keith for the past 3 years.

Shona designs and creates contemporary hand crafted stained glass using the finest materials and traditional techniques. Her designs are based on traditional themes and she can create anything from the smallest panel, as a gift, to a complete glazing of a property. She has undertaken many different projects including pieces for public buildings such as The Glenlivet Distillery, for churches including Knockando and Bellie Church in Fochabers as well as for new builds. In addition to this she also restores door and window panels.

There are a number of stages that Shona undertakes to make her beautiful and unique stained glass. Firstly, using the brief and budget she has been given, and following thorough research, she sets about creating a design. Once the customer is 100% happy with the design Shona then selects the best glass for the project, and as the ‘antique’ glass can come in many different colours, texture and character, Shona always goes the extra mile to make sure the most suited glass for the project is sourced.

The glass is then individually cut by hand, acid-etched and hand-painted where required before being fired in a kiln. Once fired the glass pieces are then assembled with lead cames, soldered, weatherproofed and polished.

So if your business, public building or home is looking for something unique and special then why not pop along next week to meet Shona, see what she is working on and watch her at work. In addition to this she will be able to show you the different materials and tools that she uses, show you designs, sketchbooks and photographs of completed work as well as hopefully having some locally themed pieces on sale. If you are interested in ‘having a go’ yourself there will also be the chance to speak to Shona about beginners classes.

Leadline Studio will be open 10am – 4pm Monday 10th to Thursday 13th, 10am – 6pm on Friday 14th and 11am – 6pm on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th. Please note the studio will not be open on Saturday 8th and if you would like to visit on Sunday 9th then please phone beforehand to make an appointment.

If you are unable to visit the studio during the NEOS week then Shona is more than happy to accommodate you at another prearranged time so please get in touch on 07941 220 417 or shona@leadlinestudio.com.
